India’s Fiasco in Nepal

Today’s web-news sites all taking about sacking of Nepalese Army Chief by the Maoists lead Government in Nepal!!!

The significant bone of contention was on 2 counts:

  1. Maoist-led government sought to retire eight brigadier-generals, the army went to court under Katawal’s orders to block the move and was successful in keeping folks together
  2. Army chiefs resistance to the government’s move to recruit former Maoist-floated Peoples Liberation Army guerillas in mainstream army.

Politics of convenience has always been mantra of Congress party. More so wisdom hit rock bottom with Left parties supporting congress to form government. I distinctly remember there were significant number of reports quoting unnamed sources from our army – how displeased they were with the decision of Congress-led UPA Govt. to remain neutral while Nepalese King was being overthrown and the subsequent support to communist led government. Infact I can clearly recollect that Sitaram Yechuri of CPI-M went to Nepal in official capacity as representative of Govt. of India at the opening assembly of Nepal Parliament to convey our overwhelming support to the murders joining mainstream Nepalese politics – may be extension of the phenomenon of criminals-turning politicians which congress had initiated and pioneered.

It is very important to recollect all the news we have heard and read over years how Nepalese communists massacred hundreds of thousands of civilians and policemen in Nepal. And theirs was always a wholesale business of murdering – mass murders.

The South Block (that houses Prime Minister’s Office, Ministry of Defence and largely Ministry of External Affairs) could have safely expected that letting India-loyal King off power and supporting China leaning-Maoists carries a huge political and security risk in addition to being again seen a weak-nation which ‘had’ to support the totally criminal mass-murders form a government in Nepal due to its lust for power in India.

At macro level, in addition to being internationally seen as a short-sighted and a vision-less disillusioned country, we have lost another opportunity to secure our nation. INFLUENCE OF THE NATION OUTSIDE ITS BORDERS IS ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT AND SIGNIFICANT FACTOR FOR ANY BI/MULTI-LATERAL NEGOTIATION – be it for Economic and Trade cooperation, signing of international protocols, UN, World Trade Meets, Tax Treaties, Ex-tradition treaties – you name it – the geographically spread physical power does all the talking and negotiation!!!

And all these embarrassments have come in last 4-5 years!!! The Nepal fiasco, the Pakistan snub at international level, loss of faith by the Military Junta of Myanmar over delay in food and infrastructure aid (it has significantly turned to China for the same including weapons), Sri Lanka openly defying India’s dikkat of buying weapons from Pakistan and China, scrapping of POTA. I make this POTA reference here since i strongly feel that if charity begins at home, so does security and influencing leadership!

Without having guts to formulate a strong internal and external security plan – what confidence people of other nations will have in India that aligning with India will protect them!!!

Even if economically rich, a Coward Big Brother is never respected.

In these circumstances isn’t it utterly shameful to even make an appeal for a permanent seat at UN Security Council. It is a joke directed on self.
